Release: Call Informer

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I hate the fact that during incoming calls Android gives you no details about the person who is calling (picture just isn’t enough). So I decided to do something about it.

I developed Call Informer ($0.99) to get around this limitation. It shows the Organization name (if available) and the City/State (if available) pulled from your Contacts database (no internet access is used).

More details and links to download can be found on my site: http://www.jestasfunhouse.com/android.

I think Call Informer will benefit many more users than just myself. As stated on my website, for now Call Informer is mainly for Droid A855. Your feedback will help to expand it to other phones!

Release: Calculator 0.4

Here is the initial release of my simple but beautiful calculator app. I tried to mimic the look and feel of the iPhone’s calculator app while adding some additional functionality of my own. It only works in portrait mode right now but I plan to add landscape in the future.

Some future goals of mine include:
-Add landscape mode
-Add additional functions (ie. Trig, Pi, Sqrt…)
-Ability to change skins as well as layout of the calculator

This app will be free for a limited time to celebrate its release.

Any questions, comments, bugs or suggestions don’t hesitate to send me an email at stormindormanproductions@gmail.com

Release: Works On Mobile

RATE THE MOBILE WEB WITH THE OFFICIAL “WORKS ON MOBILE” FREE ANDROID APPLICATION
A new one-tap way to affirm the rights of the smart-phone users’ community

London, August 2010 – A new fun and useful free application has landed in the Android Market: the official “Works On Mobile” mobile web page rating app.

As the name suggests, the app makes it easy to review whether a randomly selected website Works On Mobile, or not.

It promises to be a little simple portable way for mobile web users to gain a little funny revenge on those terrible website which are impossible to navigate through mobile devices. At the same time, Works On Mobile offers a way to award the mobile friendly ones.

Being part of a summer campaign to raise into brands and businesses the awareness that people want more mobile-friendly websites, “Works On Mobile” will allow Android phone owners to rate the web and get an overall picture of how much of the web is really usable on mobile.

People can choose to surf a site they already know, or rate the ones that the app provides at random. In both cases, every time a website is rated a tweet is sent from the @WorksOnMobile Twitter account.

The application, sponsored by London-based mobile development studio Steely Eye Digital Media, supports the Works On Mobile campaign, a hub for mobile web best practice, news, opinion and website reviews found at http://www.worksonmobile.com .

Blog: Gosh, I’m a bad blogger!

I’m feeling like such a bad blogger as of late. Other than writing a touch about my wife’s phone (which she absolutely loves, BTW) we’re moving to a new apartment that’s closer to work. While she’s doing most of the work, a lot of our time has been preoccupied with that.

And in my free time, it seems that I’ve been sucked into the world of Zenonia. I just can’t get enough of this game. I’ll be doing some writings very soon, and Zenonia will be one of them!

ROM Review: JRummy’s Froyo Kangerade V1.0

Last month I was reading about JRummy’s Froyo Kangerade on Droid-Life. Back then, a whole month ago, I was happily using UD eXtreme and didn’t really have a desire to toy with additional ROMs. Fast forward a month. Now I have a wonderful Droid X, which I can’t ROM. So, what to do with my Motorola Droid?

My wife and I decided that it was finally time to get her away from her Samsung SCH-I760. Yes, for anyone that’s familiar with Verizon’s pre-Android lineup, that’s a WiMo handset. But I had to decide what would be the best experience for her, something that would make her feel comfortable with Android, and something that would be fast for her. Let’s be honest, the vanilla Android isn’t the most stunning. Going with a stock 2.1 wouldn’t be a good choice. UD eXtreme was nice for me, but not sure she’d love the theme there. Then I remembered a reportedly fast ROM, and it was available in PINK! (Have no fear, there are more colors available) So, I headed back over to Droid-Life to page through all the articles and to dig it up.

I found the screenshots, and I felt confident that I was making the right choice. I got it installed and got her going quick. The first thing I noticed was it was fast. I didn’t check the speed, but it was nice and quick. It had a lot of the bulk removed that comes stock, as well as that comes with other ROMs. The theming was taking to an extreme, which is good. Everything included is beautifully done. It’s so well done that I almost didn’t want to install additional programs (because their icons wouldn’t match!) How bad is that?

JRummy’s Froyo Kangerade is available in the following flavors:

  • Blueberry Flavored Froyo (Blue Theme)
  • Daiquri Ice Flavored Froyo (Cyan Theme)
  • Key Lime Pie Flavored Froyo (Green Theme)
  • Pink Lemonade Flavored Froyo (Pink-Life Theme)
  • Strawberry Flavored Froyo (Red Theme)
  • Plain Froyo (Stock Theme)
  • Froyo with Nex-Theme

And the features are as follows:

  • FRF57 Base *Credit to mdw and P3Droid for the leak
  • Froyo stock kernel
  • All themes fully zipaligned
  • Busybox symlinked properly (ie. You don’t have to type busybox w/ each command)
  • Built latest ADW Launcher from source for droid *Thanks anderweb & CM
  • Complete MusicMod overhaul by Eliot Stocker (from source)
  • Added 30 custom wallpapers to ADW Launcher
  • Added custom spare parts from source *thanks Team Chaos/CM
  • Cleaned up/Added custom wallpapers for Froyo Launcher2
  • Custom Froyo boot animation *credit to kc.rkitek & ogdobber
  • 20% increments in battery for all themes
  • High quality video recording hack
  • Removed ads by default
  • Removed camera shutter sound by default
  • Disabled OTA updates
  • Decreased call delay
  • Increased wifi scan time to save battery life
  • Added bash and nano
  • Added Chrome to Phone
  • Added Pandora Radio
  • Added Adobe Flash Player (install from sdcard/adobeflashplayer)
  • Removed AmazonMP3, Google Goggles, Protips & Visual Voicemail
  • Added 150 colors to nexus live wallpaper by default
  • Added over 120 custom scripts (see below)
  • Fixed market and loss of data connection issues

Now, you don’t need to know all that information to know this ROM might just be for you. I know there have been newer ROMs released in the last month, but this is WELL done. It’s got great polish, the themes are great, it’s streamlined, and I’d gladly recommend it to anyone. Go for it, goto the download page and give it a shot. I’m sure you’ll love it.

And my wife loves it. She went from a basic WiMo phone that she only browsed web pages with, to Android, which she actually ENJOYS! I know I owe the Google guys a lot for my wife’s happiness, but I also owe JRummy a big thank you.
